Have you looked at JetNet lately? Even if you aren't traveling there is some info that might be useful. for instance...Do you have any of those old "Perfect Attendance" passes. They can be exchanged for travel surcharges. I just got back over $500 by turning them in for travel last year.
There are now Non-rev lounges in JFK, MIA, and DFW. They are like operations although in the gate areas. They have lounge chairs, TV, microwave, pillow, blankets, and sabre sets.
When you go into the travel section of JetNet look on the right side for a box labeled "Other News".

Elisa needs our help!
Elisa was always a very generous FA with her time, knowledge and resources. How many of you went to parties in her "special" room in NRT, or shopping with her while she shared her secret spots.
She was always thinking of her family and schlepped special foods halfway around the world for her mother-in-law. A truly giving person that needs our help now.
A message from Susan Vigo:
Dear Friends and Family of Allen and Elisa: As you all know, Allen has been battling Lou Gehrig's disease for the last two years. Your wonderful friendship and support has helped Allen and Elisa through this difficult journey battling this debilitating disease. Unfortunately, Allen's neurologist recently informed the family that he is in the final stretch with this terrible disease. As you can imagine, the family is under tremendous stress and we would like to assist them in any way we can.
Some of you may also know that Elisa recently had elbow surgery causing her to be out of work for the last six weeks. Despite this, she continues to care for Allen and the children during her recovery time. Because of missing so much work due to her surgery, Elisa has unfortunately depleted all of her available sick time which has placed an even greater financial burden on the family.
Recently, they were also informed that Allen's power wheelchair will now cost an additional $1,800 as their insurance did not cover what they had expected. When speaking with Elisa the other day, we also discovered that their washing machine broke and is unable to be repaired. Due to the additional medical expenses they've incurred battling this disease, they cannot afford to purchase a new one at this time. These are just a few issues that they are trying to cope with.
Realizing the incredible support friends and family have given them during this very difficult time and knowing what proud people Allen and Elisa are when it comes to needing help, we've opened a bank account for donations for those of you who would like to further assist them. If you have received this email and are not family or personal friends of the Wong's, we apologize as the only way we were able to obtain these email addresses was from their daughter Cheyenne who isn't knowledgeable on who everyone is on their email list.
We know with everyone's help, this can make a positive difference during this very stressful time for them. Checks can be made out to Elisa Wong and deposited directly at any Bank of America branch (account information provided below) or mailed to Marc and Susan Vigo at the address below.
WINGS has arranged for American Airlines Flight Attendants to donate PVDs to Elisa. If you are interested in donating, please visit the WINGS web site by clicking the following link http://www.wingsfoundation.com/index_files/Page1842.htm to complete an online PVD Donation Authorization form. Elisa's AA employee number is 309950 and she is based at JFK.
As you can imagine, it is not possible for us to obtain everyone's email address so we would also like to request that you please keep this email going by forwarding it to anyone who we may not have included on this email and you think might like join us in assisting the Wong's. Allen and Elisa have always been there for all of us and we would like to continue to support them during this very difficult time in their lives. Thank you friends for all your kindness and generosity. Be well.
Sincerely,
Susan and Marc Vigo

Above the Glamour (2008)

The long-awaited memoir co-written with American Airlines flight attendant Jean Keiser, who has survived everything from hijackings, hotel fires, and cabin over pressurizations to a litany of crazy passengers traveling the not-so-friendly skies. An amazing tale of endurance in pursuit of a dream and a tribute to the profession.
Author and veteran flight attendant Jean Keiser found her calling high above her head and written in the clouds. She loves what she does. She loves to fly, and it is certain that if being hijacked, hassled by natural disaster, and forced to quell a little cabin fever didn't scare her away, that readers are in for a treat when it comes to this much anticipated memoir about jetlag, juggling, and living above the glamour. Fasten your seatbelt - it is going to be a bumpy ride!

Creditable Medical Coverage Info
If you/your spouse/domestic partner are age 65 or older at your retirement date, this is an important reminder to call HR Services at 1-800-447-2000 and request a "Certificate of Creditable Medical Coverage" which will have all your personal information, as you will have to submit it to Medicare to prove you, your spouse/domestic partner had creditable medical coverage with American Airlines even after age 65 while you were employed. The general "Dear Colleague" letter that we receive each year in the mail explaining creditable coverage is NOT sufficient as Medicare needs this certificate with all your personal information. It will take about one week to receive this certificate from HR Services, so do not delay. If you/your spouse/domestic partner are age 65 or older at retirement, you must sign up for Medicare within 63 days of your retirement date or get penalized for a late sign-up. This means that you will pay more for Medicare this penalty is irreversible.
Some of you may have "creditable coverage" with your spouse/domestic partner's company and will not have to sign up for Medicare until he/she retires from their perspective companies. IT IS IMPORTANT TO CHECK WITH THESE OTHER COMPANIES TO DETERMINE IF THEY, IN FACT, HAVE CREDITABLE COVERAGE FOR YOU TO AVOID A LATE SIGN UP PENALTY SHOULD THAT COMPANY NOT BE CREDITABLE. Once your spouse/domestic partner retires, you will then need a "Certificate of Creditable Medical Coverage" from your spouse/domestic partner's company to prove creditable coverage for Medicare.
It is important to note that you/your spouse/domestic partner, if eligible, should consider planning for Medicare 3 months prior to your retirement date or before your 65th birthday so that you have things in order to coincide with your retirement date/65th birthday. Medicare sign up can be very confusing..Call Medicare at 1-800-633-4227 or HR Services at 1-800-447-2000, if you have any questions.
Please share this with your F/A friends as many are retiring especially with the recent VBR. This will save them $$$$ Thanks!

KEITH BJES - A CELEBRATION OF
LIFE **************
THE NEW YORK SCHOOL OF INTERIOR DESIGN
170 East 70th Street
New York, NY 10021
As many of you know, Keith Bjes retired from American Airlines with almost 30 years of service in September 2006. He felt it was time to focus his energy on his passion for Interior Design, a new direction he began in 2003. He enrolled at the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) in Manhattan, where his creativity and passion for the art continued to grow. Keith excelled at NYSID. He wowed and charmed the faculty and staff there as he often did with all of us. He loved it there and thus I'm pleased to announce...The New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) Keith Bjes Fund has been established. In lieu of cards, flowers, etc. Donations can be sent to the school in honor of Keith, and are fully tax-deductible. This will be a wonderful way to keep his spirit alive. Checks can be made payable to NYSID Keith Bjes Fund, and sent directly to the school's address... (above)
Garlic Tofu' Recipe from Sumi.
I just wanted to drop a line to say !! HI !! to many of my NARITA FRIENDS.
I knew many of you like the "Garlic Tofu" from the crew restaurant in Narita. I got (begged) the recipe from the chef there and here it goes!!!!!
1 firm tofu (cut in half lengthwise)
4 tsp flour
2 cups of mix vegetables
3 tsp butter
2 tsp butter
1 clove of garlic minced
3 tsp soy sauce
Oil for frying
1) If you have iron skillet or platter like the ones at Narita, heat it in the oven or on top of the stove. (Oven is safer and will not smoke.) If you don't have one, you can use a regular frying pan, but do not heat it till before serving.
2) Drain tofu very well. Please make sure tofu is not watery. (Hint- after cutting the tofu, wrap with paper towels. Place on a plate. Microwave for 2 mins. This helps removes water from the tofu faster. Another way is to wrap the tofu in a cheese cloth, place in a colander. Topped with a small plate. On top of the plate, place something heavy but will not smash the tofu. Till tofu is well drained.)
3) While tofu draining, melt 3 tsp butter in a pan. (Do not burn butter!!) Add minced garlic and soy sauce till warm
4) Heat up a pan with about 1 to 1 1/2 inch of oil. Flour tofu on all sides, and fry the tofu till golden brown. Drain oil. After tofu is golden brown and well drained, place it in the garlic soy sauce mix. Let it soak up the flavor.
5) Remove iron skillet/platter from heat, place raw mixed vegetables on top. Place 2 tsp of butter on top. Place the garlic tofu on top. (If you don't have an iron skillet/platter, heat a pan on top of the stove till smoking. Place vegs, butter, and tofu on top.)

A message from Mickey and Roy:
Way to go Jill & Jenny!!!! A wonderful web site for all of us to enjoy. I (Mickey) am still working but have taken the last two months off. Practicing for my retirement. Have received training to be a APFA retirement rep. So anyone thinking of retirement and need help call me (203 820 8899). Roy is actively looking for a position, using all his degrees, probably in a library. We recently obtained a new lease for our NYC apt. we were sweating it, as we have not done everything, legally, to obtain the lease, but thru dumb luck we did. As for the May lunch/dinner, we live in Ct. and can offer two guest beds.
Many thanks for getting this going,
Mickey Sullivan & Roy Brayton
