Margo Loree and Maryanne Hegewald's Retirement Party
November 12, 2008

A  retirement party for Margo and Maryanne was held at Ithaka Restaurant, a Greek Restaurant on 86th Street. (They claim the restaurant was named by Jackie Kennedy at the time she was married to Onassis.) There were lots of stories shared and a good time was had by all!

The Carefree Kiwi Chapter Meetings

Carefree KiwisIn 2005, when Gerrie Skaggs McAlhany and K.Lynn Hoffmann Yelvington co-founded the Carefree Chapter, they envisioned a group of Kiwis reflecting the chapter’s name.  Caring Kiwis with a carefree attitude became the group’s motto and the seven charter members agreed to take off down the runway the fun-way.

Today, the chapter’s cohesive flock shares the carefree spirit and they’re flyin’ high, with more than twenty members.  The relaxed monthly gatherings focus on good times filled with unsurpassed camaraderie. Official business is conduced and concluded within 20 minutes, unless some goofy behavior veers the group off course, but laughter and flexibility are encouraged, because these fledglings just want to have fun.  The Carefree Kiwis are team players, committed to one another through a democratic system that ensures a majority vote on all chapter decisions.

The chapter newsletter, The Carefree Times, provides informative, entertaining news via email, saving the chapter the expense of printing and postage.

The Carefree Chapter’s carefree philosophy carries over to the way they conduct fun-raisers.  (The word fundraiser is not used.)  The chapter supports Wings Foundation, Inc. through a variety of voluntary, anonymous ways.

The chapter embraces its new members, and provides them with a packet explaining the relaxed operational aspects of the Carefree Kiwi Chapter, along with pertinent information regarding The Kiwi Club, and Wings Foundation, Inc.

kiwisThe Carefree Chapter’s relaxed approach, and flexible operational style, attracts a flock of Kiwis interested in thriving within an atmosphere focused on nurturing.  Once a month, these Kiwis escape to a stress free haven, where they bond, and laugh, and soar to new heights of friendship.

Carefree is located just north of Scottsdale, although chapter gatherings occur throughout the PHX area.
Motto: Caring Kiwis with a carefree attitude. FUN-raisers support Wings Many of our members retired within the last few years.
Gatherings: September - May - usually the third Tuesday of each month and once during the zillion degree heat of the summer

The gathering at Bellagio's City Place West Palm Beach did take place Monday, Feb.26. Nine retirees showed up and it was like a layover in Europe...they took one look at us, heard the noise,  and gave us a separate room. Perfect we had our own party room.
